The Practical Boat Owner (www.pbo.co.uk) has made an article questioning if many of the distress signalling required by SOLAS is behind the times. Today there are multiple solutions to distress signalling that are smarter and safer for vessels to carry. One of them is the electronic visual distress signal (EVDS) which illuminates for around 8 hours at full illumination and is safely stored due to the EVDS being battery powered.
