On July 12th 2023, the European Parliament adopted Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 (EU Battery Regulation) which will impact the EU battery market for many years to come.
This new framework is gradually replacing the existing EU Battery Directive 2006/66/EC. The obligations and requirements vary between five different battery types. These are:
- Portable batteries
- Industrial batteries
- EV batteries
- SLI batteries
- Transport (LMT) batteries
These regulations impact both battery manufacturers and suppliers of products containing batteries. Daniamant uses various batteries in our products and our products containing batteries are classed as ‘portable’.
The first obligation for Daniamant will be concerning labelling, CE marking and communication of the EU Declaration of Conformity for our batteries with a due date of 18th August 2024.
Many of Daniamant products will not be impacted as Daniamant is only ‘using’ a cell from a supplier within our products and our suppliers have the responsibility and obligation to comply to these regulations. Please be assured that Daniamant have and are continually conducting detailed supply chain reviews to ensure that our battery suppliers are compliant with the regulation
However, some of Daniamant products are classed as battery packs for transport i.e. UN3090 lithium metal batteries and in some cases we have created a battery pack i.e. more than one cell. It is worth explaining that this legislation applies to all battery types (Lithium, alkaline, silver chloride)
The following products are impacted, where the only function of that product is a battery:
- RB2
- Rescue Master 1
- Rescue Master Lite GB
- Combi LD
- Rescue Master 2B
- Rescue Master 3B
- LJ2
- L12B
- L8S
- L37
- REXT
- REXT1
- ML-200
By the 18th August these products will be marked with the CE mark and have the appropriate Declaration of Conformity available for download on the product page on our website. Labelling of the product will also be in accordance with Annex 6 of the Regulation.
The following products are not impacted, as their function is not just a battery pack i.e. they are a survivor location light, or the batteries are user replaceable with a manufacturers cell that will already be compliant.
Please note that many of Daniamant products are ‘Technician’ replaceable and any requirements for replacement are carried our by ‘authorised’ persons/service stations only; this is to assure continued safe operation and not to void the warranty on these safety critical items.
